About South Bend Civic Theatre

In 2017 the South Bend Civic Theatre ( will celebrate its 60th year of delighting, challenging, and educating the South Bend region.  The Theatre’s mission of enriching its communities through live theatre is carried out by a passionate, talented, and diverse corps of volunteers.  South Bend Civic Theatre presents award-winning theatre in a 200-seat proscenium auditorium and a 75-seat “black box” studio, both housed in its restored historic facility in downtown South Bend. 


About the Executive Director Role

SBCT’s executive director will provide leadership to the organization and interact extensively with supporters and volunteers in the South Bend region.  Primary responsibilities include:

·         Generating substantial and ongoing financial support from individual donors, corporate sponsors, and foundations and other grant-making organizations

·         Providing effective leadership for the Theatre’s professional staff

·         Managing the fiscal and operational affairs of the organization

·         Fostering and maintaining a positive experience for patrons, participants in classes and camps, volunteers, and other valued members of the SBCT community


Qualifications for Executive Director Candidates

The ideal executive director candidate will have the following:

·         Experience in a leadership role, ideally as the executive of a non-profit organization or senior leader of a business enterprise

·         Demonstrable success in fundraising and donor cultivation and/or a record of high-level sales experience

·         An ability to develop and expand strong relationships with diverse communities throughout the South Bend region

·         A collaborative working style, coupled with a pragmatic management and problem solving approach
