What to do for Jr. Academy or Academy auditions...
To prepare for auditions, please choose one monologue, about one minute long, that showcases your abilities. The student will also need to prepare about 16 bars of the song of your choice from any musical to sing a capella (without accompaniment). You should do your best to memorize both the monologue and song selection. It can be a monologue from a play, a poem, a historical speech, even a dialogue excerpt from literature. If you can't find material, feel free to use the following example as your audition selections.
What to do for a Civic Youth Company audition...
To prepare for auditions, please choose two contrasting monologues, about one minute long, each to memorize and perform. They should be a monologue from a published play. An example of contrasting material would be one funny and one serious, or one shakespeare soliloquy and one contemporary selection. Company members will also need to prepare 16 bars of the song of your choice from any musical to sing a capella (without accompaniment).
