Who We are: South Bend Civic Theatre is dedicated to cultivating the whole artist-- mind, body, and soul. We inspire our students to exemplify the Civic Theatre’s 5 C’s: Creativity, Curiosity, Compassion, Civility, and Collaboration. We believe art is crucial in creating connected citizens who value community over self. We view our responsibility as Educators is to lead by example and create a safe and supportive atmosphere for participants to explore, grow, and create.
What We do: The Education Department creates and coordinates a number of programs, including: a full-year conservatory program in which we train the next generation of artists, a season of productions (Theatre for Young Audiences) that strive to grow our audiences in awareness and compassion, a season of camps both in house- and off site partnerships that expand the reach of art instruction throughout our community, and professional development workshops to inspire and train our community of educators on the value of infusing theatre training in their everyday lesson plans.
What We need: The education internship provides insight into what it takes to run a fast-paced and high-profile acting conservatory. Responsibilities include: facilitating the start of the sessions, assisting with the Company program, assisting in the marketing of the Academy, assisting in the Theatre for Young Audience productions, hosting students’ showcase presentations at the end of the semester, maintaining the organization and upkeep of class spaces along with working with the Production Manager on updating the class reservations, and assisting in the day-to-day needs of the education department. The ideal intern should not only be interested in the study of acting, but also be organized, personable, and detail-oriented.
