The South Bend Civic Theatre is proud to announce the cast members for the March 2018 Production of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “In The Heights,” directed by Paul Mow and Leah Tirado.

Co-Director Mow, after casting was completed, said "The excitement in the room for our first cast read-through was palpable. To be able to cast this production with a very high percentage of area actors of Latinx heritage is something truly special, not to mention their immense talents. This show is going to be utterly fantastic, and I'm so glad to just be a small part of it's origin."

From Co-Director Leah Tirado: "Estoy muy orgulloso de ser parte de esta producción. To bring such an important piece of theatre to life, to bring the Latinx community to the stage is a dream come true. Growing up bicultural meant there were very few stories that I could relate to; Lin-Manuel Miranda captures this experience beautifully. This show, the music, the characters, the talent that you will see on the South Bend Civic stage is an event you will not want to miss. Soy emocionada. Soy encantada. Soy Boriqua. ¡Dale!"

“In the Heights” tells the story of the vibrant Latin American community in New York City's Washington Heights neighborhood; a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open, and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It’s a community on the brink of change, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind.

Celebrating its 10 year anniversary, “In the Heights” is the winner of the 2008 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations.

“In the Heights” features music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda (“Hamilton”) and a book by Quiara Algeria Hudes, will have it’s premiere performance at South Bend Civic Theatre on March 9, 2018.
