GUTS: The Story of BooBoo & Me
By Marybeth Saunders
Six-year-old BooBoo just wants the horrible to stop. When being very, very good fails, she becomes very, very small. GUTS: The Story of BooBoo & Me is a poignant, autobiographical journey of two sisters driven apart by mental illness and brought back together again…just in time.
Marybeth Saunders, South Bend actress, writer, and singer, began writing as a way through the grief of her sister's death from anorexia nervosa in 2010. During her writing process, Marybeth realized a piece of theatre was being born that had the power to enlighten audiences about this rampant, shame and isolation-driven disease. In January of this year, GUTS: The Story of BooBoo & Me was one of just 13 solo shows chosen to premiere at the Chicago 2017 Solo Festival, produced by Three Cat Productions, and was performed for a sold out house.
For those familiar with South Bend Civic Theatre, Marybeth has enjoyed being a part of numerous shows, her most recent role playing the hilarious Mammy in Martin McDonagh’s The Cripple of Inishmaan. She has also appeared in Christopher Durang’s Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike (Cassandra), and Sarah Ruhl’s The Clean House (Ana).
