The Thanksgiving Play Auditions
Title of Show: The Thanksgiving Play
Synopsis: A painfully “woke” theatre teacher enlists her boyfriend, a history teacher, and a professional actress to co-create a Thanksgiving play to put on at an elementary school. But trying to maintain political correctness while writing a play without Native Americans to add their voices to the script proves challenging. Written by a member of the Lakota tribe, The Thanksgiving Play is a new satire.

ROLES
Logan: Adult Female, Caucasian looking, high school drama teacher who is always looking to push the envelope in potentially inappropriate ways. Earnest about theatre and proving herself. Sees herself as an ally for marginalized people, but isn’t entirely aware of what that entails. In a relationship with Jaxton.
Jaxton: Adult Male, Caucasian looking, yoga practitioner/actor. Politically correct to a fault, a big one. He’s that confident guy everyone loves, but his logical PC thinking takes weird turns. Like Logan, sees himself as an ally for marginalized people, but doesn’t seem to actually know any personally. In a relationship with Logan.
Alicia – Adult Female, brunette, Caucasian looking, actress. Looks “ethnically ambiguous” enough that she could have been cast as ethnic in 1950s movies. Without guile. Sexy and hot, but not bright.
Caden – Adult Male, Caucasian looking, the academic. Awkward elementary school history teacher with dramatic aspirations but no experience. Develops an attraction to Alicia.
Students – Four students, any grade, race or gender. Performing songs and skits at assemblies. Some of them have a flair for the dramatic. Some of them would rather be playing Fortnite. None of them are aware of how problematic these performances are.
Note: The adult roles are open to actors of any gender, age, or race/ethnicity. What is important is that the actors be able to “pass” as white.
